Libertarian party of Canada

Page history last edited by Alyssa 15 years, 7 months ago

The mission of the Libertarian Party of Canada is to reduce the responsibilities and expense of government. This, so that we may each manage our lives to mutually fulfill our needs by the free and voluntary exchange of our efforts and property for the value that best realizes our happiness.

libertarian: In not so many words, an Anarchist

  1. One who advocates maximizing individual rights and minimizing the role of the state.
  2. One who believes in free will.

Party Policies

The Libertarian Party has five main policies:

-Property Rights: Allowing us to keep our houses no matter what, even if we don't have enough money to pay for them

-Free Enterprise: Allowing business owners to meet the needs of the customer through the way they want to, not how the government tells them to. This includes allowing business owners to choose if smoking is allowed in resturants or not.

-Individual Rights: Allowing us to take a stand and draw the line when we think that the government has gone too far.

-Socialism and Interventionalism: Change Socialism to a culture of freedom

Socialism:a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.

-Big Brother

The Libertarian Party's platforms and objectives are the following:

-Individual Rights: We can live in whatever way we choose as long as we do not affect the lives of others.

-Government's Role: The government is limited in their structure and what they can do.

-Civil Order: No conflict exists between the individual's rights to life, liberty, and property, and the government's obligation to maintain civil order.

-Social Concerns: Government interference in current social concerns such as pollution, consumer protection, health care delivery, and poverty exceeds the level required for the protection of individual rights.

-Defence & Foreign Policy: The Governement would not be involved in foreign wars and arguments.

-Trade & Economy: The government is to protect property rights, enforce contracts, and adjudicate disputes, providing a legal framework for the protection of trade.

The Libertarian party is not a joke party, this party is a serious party, though I do not think that they would get a lot of votes because they are actually very close to being Anarchists. The Libertarians want to minimize the government and put more faith in peoples rights to choose. (This would/could include drugs etc.)

I would find it hard as a Christian to support this party because of their beliefs. They make it seem as though it is alright to do anything you want to, including drugs as long as we do not affect others. I also think that since they are being close to Anarchism that it would be hard for me to vote for them. We as a country need a strong government, not one that will be small and uneffecient and almost not there.
