Progressive Canadian Party

  1. Policies
    • On Canadian Economy
      • Economic growth is not the only measure of human achievement but the creation of wealth makes it possible for us to do many things. We seek to create a sustainable economy with true competition and a level playing field. Balance in the economy is crucial. If any one player has too much power, be they big business, big government or big unions – then the balance is lost.
    • On Agriculture
      • Our “100 mile challenge” would support family farms and innovative agricultural businesses. (The "100 mile challenge" involves consumers trying when possible to only buy produce from farms within a 100 mile radius.)
    • On Education
      • Our education policy is about equal opportunity for all. We will provide a program of economic support for every student in post secondary education to ensure that education is accessible for all. Over a period of years we will phase in a tax based program to relieve students of the burden of debt. Providing the graduate stays in Canada for a period of years, and providing the student participates in the tax system, Canadian students will no longer carry debt.
    • On Healthcare
      • We believe in a One-Tier health care system – BUT - we believe that small business has a key role in the public system. Doctors are one type of small business that already supplies the public system. If it is more cost effective to utilize business in our health care system that is what we should do, providing that health care is still available to all at no cost and that payment will not put someone at the front of the line. Through our education program we will have more trained medical staff staying in Canada to relieve the severe shortage.
    • On Environment and Natural Resources
      • Our natural environment is not only a treasure, it is an asset. Water is the oil of the next century…our natural resources have to be protected as they will be our currency on the world stage in the next hundred years. Kyoto is an opportunity to transform our economy, retrofit our infrastructure (especially in cities), clean up our air and water and make this the “wealthiest” country in the world. Sadly, we have to prepare for the impact of global warming while we try to minimize it.
    • Summary of Policies
      • The Progressive Canadian Party wishes to create a balanced and prosperous national economy. They want Canadians to try buying food locally to support local agriculture and farming. They want greater support of post-secondary education for students now, so that in the future they will make more money and help Canada prosper. The PC's also believe that healthcare should still be available to all, but it may be more efficient to also support business-run doctors. Also, they want to make it easier for students to get medical education so there will be more doctors in the future. Finally, they value our water as an extremely important resource, and wish to use our resources wisely so that we can grow as a nation and also stop global warming.
  2. Leader
    • The leader portrays an older and more mature attitude. The Progressive Canadian Party seems to be trying to portray a "safe" and reliable image.
    • Sinclair Stevens was first elected to the House of Commons in 1972 as a Progressive Conservative candidate.
    • In 1984, Stevens became the Minister of Regional Expansion. In 1986, he was forced to resign from his cabinet position due to conflicts of interest.
    • Progressive Canadian Party Leader:

      Hon. Sinclair M. Stevens

  3. Is this a Serious Party?
    • Yes, It is a serious party that was formed after the Progressive Conservative Party joined with another party to create the Conservative Party of Canada. The Progressive Canadian Party is very similar to the once existing Progressive Conservative or "PC" Party. This party has genuine and sensible political ideas.
  4. Can a Christian Support this Party?
    • I think so. The values and goals of the Progressive Canadian Party do not seem to run against Christian values. They did not mention some issues such as abortion on their website, but what they did talk about did not conflict with any Christian values.
